Native Garden Design

I cultivate thriving ecosystems using native Tennessee plants. My design approach focuses on biodiversity, pollinator support, and sustainable beauty, creating resilient landscapes that help reconnect you with the natural world.

Resilience

Native plants have evolved to live here, so they are used to Nashville’s climate. They withstand our heat, cold snaps, deluges and dry spells better than plants from other places. Once established, they require less maintenance to thrive.

Why Native Plants

Wildlife Support

There has been a catastrophic decline in insect and bird populations, which form the foundation of our ecosystem.  Insects can survive quite well without humans, but we cannot survive without their pollination services and contributions to the food web. Insects have evolved to depend upon native plants for food and to sustain their full lifecycle. Therefore, if you plant native plants, you will almost immediately notice not only more insects, but more birds.

Beauty

Tennessee has incredible plant (and animal!) biodiversity, which means a huge array of beautiful plants call the state home. The variety of color, texture, shape, and size allows you to create gardens that are unique and far more interesting than a cookie cutter yard filled with turf grass and meatball shrubs next to your foundation.

Garden Design Process

01

Initial Consultation

We begin with a free 30 minute consultation call for me to learn about your land, goals, which service(s) you might like, and to provide a rough estimate of the related costs.

02

Site Assessment and Quote

If you’d like to proceed, we schedule an on-site assessment, during which I take measurements and capture all the attributes of the space (e.g., soil, sunlight, moisture, etc.). We discuss your priorities for plant types and characteristics (e.g., color, bloom time, height, etc.) and which service(s) you would like. I produce a quote for the services.

03

Plan Development

I provide you with suggested plants for your feedback, and once we have an agreed upon plant list, I produce a two dimension scale design of your garden with a detailed planting map, plant list, and planting guidance.

04

Implementation

If the engagement includes procuring plants, garden bed preparation, and planting, I coordinate with your schedule to make the design a reality.
