BEHIND THE BLOOM
About Me
Hi, I'm Corey! I’ve lived in Nashville since 2002. I have always loved nature, especially trees, but I wasn’t a gardener. During the pandemic, I read Doug Tallamy’s book, Bringing Nature Home. He makes the case that everyone, regardless of how much land you have, can support wildlife and improve biodiversity by planting native plants. I was inspired to convert my 1/3 acre urban yard to native plants. Five years in, I have over 80 species of native flowers, grasses, shrubs and trees. My garden is a certified Wild Ones Native Habitat, a Tennessee Smart Yard, and a Tennessee Urban Forestry Council Tree Sanctuary. It was also featured on the Volunteer Gardener show on PBS. I’m currently enrolled in the Tennessee Naturalist program, and I am a board member of the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council. My garden brings me joy every day, and I want to help others feel that joy in their gardens without needing to do the hundreds of hours of research and learning I’ve done. Previously, I was a consultant, helping state government agencies plan, build, use and sustain their information systems. I have over a decade of experience working with clients to understand their needs and help them fulfill their goals.
